Product Overview

OWATROL® DECO is an all-in-one anti-rust primer and decorative multi-surface paint designed for both interior and exterior use. Powered by the deep-penetrating technology of OWATROL® OIL, this flexible, oil-based coating bonds directly to bare, clean, or rusted surfaces without requiring a separate primer or undercoat.

Unlike conventional paints that crack or peel, OWATROL® DECO creates an elastic, microporous finish that flexes naturally with substrate movement. It provides superior protection against severe weathering, moisture, and pollution, while withstanding heat up to 175°C once cured—making it as ideal for household radiators and pipework as it is for exterior metalwork, wood, and uPVC.

Surface Preparation

Proper preparation ensures maximum adhesion and long-term corrosion resistance:

• General Prep: Ensure all surfaces are clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, salt, and dirt contaminants.
• Rust & Old Coatings: Remove loose or flaking paint and heavy rust scale back to a firm edge using a wire brush or scraper. Light rust does not need to be completely removed.
• Chemical Exposure: Rinse surfaces exposed to acids, alkalis, or salt deposits thoroughly with fresh water or steam.
• New Timber: Abrade bare wood with 120-grit sandpaper to open pores. Clean resinous or oily woods thoroughly using methylated spirits or acetone.

Application Guidelines

Stir thoroughly before and during use. Do not thin.

1. Metal Surfaces

• New Unpainted Steel & Light Rust: Apply 2 coats of OWATROL® DECO, allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
• New Galvanised Surfaces: Prime first with a coat of OWATROL® OIL, allow 24 hours to dry, then apply 2 coats of OWATROL® DECO.
• Severely Rusted Metal: Apply OWATROL® OIL “wet-on-wet” until rust is fully saturated (indicated by a uniform glossy appearance when dry). Finish with 2 coats of OWATROL® DECO.
• Previously Painted Metal: Spot-prime bare or rusted areas with OWATROL® DECO or OWATROL® OIL, bring level with the existing coating, then apply 2 full coats across the entire surface.

2. Wooden Surfaces

• New Timber: Apply 2 coats of OWATROL® DECO over the entire surface.
• Soft, Porous, or Weathered Wood: Prime porous areas with OWATROL® OIL, allow to dry, then apply 2 coats of OWATROL® DECO.
• Previously Painted Wood: Spot-prime bare areas, bring level, and complete with 2 overall coats of OWATROL® DECO.

3. Plastics, uPVC & Other Substrates

• Apply 2 uniform coats of OWATROL® DECO across the entire area. For spot repairs on previously painted plastics, build up bare patches before applying 2 final finish coats.
