Product Description

OWATROL®-DECO is a rust inhibiting primer and finish in one that combines the penetrating and adhesion qualities of OWATROL® OIL with specially selected pigments to provide a high quality decorative finish, enhanced anti-corrosion protection and exceptional resistance to weathering and pollution. Penetrating the surface imperfections, so bonding tightly to it, OWATROL®-DECO may be applied direct to any surface including rusted surfaces, to provide lasting protection and greatly prolong the life of the treated surface.Safe to use in confined areas, OWATROL®-DECO does not emit any dangerous fumes and will withstand temperatures up to 175°C once cured. Highly elastic, OWATROL®-DECO will not peel or flake making it ideal for surfaces subject to high movement and flexing such as plastic and uPVC. OWATROL®-DECO adheres exceptionally well to clean, bright metal; while sand or shot blasted surfaces do not require an immediate application, since a light rust coating will not affect its performance or the final result.

Surface Preparation

• Surfaces must be clean, dry and free from oil, grease and other surface contaminants.
• Remove all mill scale; loose and flaking rust and old paint back to a sound surface and edge.
• Lightly rusted surfaces should be lightly wire brushed.
• Feather in any sharp edges.
• Surfaces exposed to chemicals (acids, alkalis or salt deposits) should be washed using copious amounts of water or steam cleaned.
• Severely contaminated surfaces should be cleaned using an appropriate solvent.
• Abrade new wood surfaces with 120 grit paper to open the woods pores and dust off. Wash with denatured alcohol (methylated spirits) to remove any sanding residue.
• Oily, resinous and greasy woods should be thoroughly degreased with denatured alcohol (methylated spirits), acetone or similar solvent based product.

Application

Stir can well before and during use. Do not thin.

METAL SURFACES

New surfaces exc’ galvanised surfaces:Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO allowing drying time between coats.New galvanised surfaces:Prime surface with OWATROL® OIL* and allow to dry 24 hours.Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO allowing drying time between coats.Clean, lightly rusted or new unpainted rusty steel:Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO allowing drying time between coats.Old severely rusted surfaces:Apply wet on wet applications of OWATROL® OIL* until rust is fully saturated and allow to dry. Saturation is indicated by a uniform glossy appearance to the surface when OWATROL® OIL* is dry.Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO allowing drying time between coats.Previously coated surfaces:Spot prime all exposed metal with OWATROL® OIL* or OWATROL®-DECO depending on severity of rust and allow to dry.Continue applying OWATROL®-DECO, allowing drying time between coats to bring level with existing finish.Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.

WOODEN SURFACES

New surfaces:Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.Damaged, soft, punky or porous wood surfaces:Prime with OWATROL® OIL* and allow to dry.Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.Previously coated surfaces:Spot prime all exposed surfaces with OWATROL® OIL* or OWATROL®-DECO depending on condition and porosity of the wood,allow to dry.Continue applying OWATROL®-DECO, allowing drying time between coats to bring level with existing finish.Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.

OTHER SURFACES (plastic, expanded polystyrene, tiles…)

Apply 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO over entire area; allowing drying time between coats.For previously coated surfaces spot prime any bare areas with OWATROL®-DECO to bring level with existing finish. Finish with 2 coats of OWATROL®-DECO to the entire area. allowing drying time between coats.
