Product Description

H4 WOOD & STONE is a colourless, waterproof protection for wood and stone. Silicone free and incorporating the new technology PARAFLUOROSILANE (pfs), H4 WOOD & STONE protects wood and stone from environmental attack. Hydrophobic and therefore water repellent, H4 WOOD & STONE allows wood to naturally grey while protecting against water ingress, mould, pollution etc. Stabilising the woods’ lignin, H4 WOOD & STONE helps increase the service life of the wood. Ideal for stone, H4 WOOD & STONE seals and fixes even the most fragile surfaces helping to prevent the build-up of dirt, algae etc. Completely colourless H4 WOOD & STONE has no effect on the colour or appearance of the surface being treated.

Properties

• Water repellent – Protects the surface against water ingress, mould, pollution, dirt etc.
• Hydrophobic – Repels water.
• Hybrid system – Silicone free – Can be overcoated with any finish without the need for stripping.
• Can be added to water based finishes (Paint, Stain) 10 to 20% (Max 20%) to enhance their water repellent characteristics.
• Add 10% to a water based saturator/penetrating finish to optimise performance.
• Completely colourless – Does not change the colour or appearance of the surface.
• Non Film-forming – Allows wood to grey naturally while maintaining its internal structure.
• Ideal for maintaining and protecting wood that has already weathered (greyed).
• No UV Protection – Does not stop the wood from greying.
• pH Neutral – Does not damage any substrate including fragile ones.
• Improves self-cleaning – Maintains its natural appearance – Makes cleaning easier.
• Colourless protection for all stone – Limits dirt and air pollution build-up on porous mineral substrates.
• Protects the wood during transportation in difficult conditions (Containers, Film wrapped pallets….).

Surface Preparation

General Directions

• Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew and previous coatings.
• Treat mildew with a 50/50 bleach/water solution. Scrub solution on to surface and allow to stand for 10-15 minutes; rinse thoroughly.
• After cleaning and/or stripping, allow wood to dry 2-3 good drying days or until it has reached a moisture content of 18 % or less before applying finish.
• H4 WOOD & STONE can only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered surfaces previously finished with H4 WOOD & STONE. H4 WOOD & STONE may also be applied to surfaces previously finished with OWATROL penetrating products TEXTROL®*, AQUADECKS®*…. without the need for stripping.
• ALL other finishes MUST be completely and thoroughly removed. If necessary sand (80 grit or coarser depending on wood species) surface after cleaning and/or stripping.
• Thoroughly dust off.

New wood

Test wood for absorbency by sprinkling water on the surface. If water is absorbed quickly, the grain is sufficiently “open” and the surface is ready for finishing, proceed to Application. If water is not absorbed then proceed as follows:

• Treat wood with AQUANETT®* or PREPDECK®*, neutralise with NET-TROL®*, alternatively mechanically or manually abrade surface with 80 grit paper or coarser depending on wood species.
• Clean and dust off to remove all loose wood particles.

Weathered wood surfaces (untreated)

1 – To keep the grey look of the wood clean with SOAPCLEAN*.2 – To restore the colour of the wood clean with undiluted NET-TROL®* to remove all loose wood fibres, dirt and other surface contamination.

Previously treated surfaces (oiled, paint, stain, varnish….)

• All previous finishes must be completely and thoroughly removed.
• Oils and sealers: Strip with AQUANETT®* or PREPDECK®*, neutralise with NET-TROL®*.
• Solvent (oil or alkyd based finishes): Strip with DILUNETT®*, neutralise with NET-TROL®*.
• Acrylic finishes (Water-based): Strip with PREPDECK®*, neutralise with NET-TROL®*.
• Other finishes e.g. 2 pack epoxies, urethanes…: Strip with DSP800*, neutralise surface with a suitable solvent – Acetone, White Spirits, Methylated Spirits….

Note: Hardwoods inc. exotic hardwoods and woods rich in tannins i.e. Cedar, Douglas Fir, Teak, Ipe, Iroko…. may darken with AQUANETT®*, PREPDECK®* and DILUNETT®*, neutralising with NET-TROL®* immediately after rinsing will lighten and restore the woods colour.

New Stone

Clean with SOAPCLEAN* to remove any dust, dirt and other surface contamination. Allow to dry 24 hours.

Heavily Soiled and Dirty Stone

Clean with undiluted NET-TROL®*. Allow to dry 24 hours.

Application

• Use as is.
• Do not thin.
• Apply a generous application of H4 WOOD & STONE.
• Allow to dry 24 hours.

When H4 WOOD & STONE is fully dry conduct water drop test – Sprinkle water on surface. If water beads the surface is properly protected. If water does not bead, apply another generous application of H4 WOOD & STONE to ensure full protection.
