Owatrol Teak Olje, Premium Hardwood Oil

Product Description

TEAK-OLJE is a blend of OWATROL® OIL and high quality teak oil for Teak and other exotic hardwoods. Protecting and enhancing the natural beauty of the wood, TEAK-OLJE is a, deep penetrating, clear oil that gives a rich warm appearance to any treated wood surface. Suitable for both inside and outside use, TEAK-OLJE replaces the natural oils lost by exterior wood in the weathering process and will not blacken when exposed to UV rays making it ideal for garden furniture.

Surface Preparation

General directions

• Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew and previous coatings.
• Treat mildew with a 50/50 bleach/water solution. Scrub solution on to surface and allow to stand for 10-15 minutes, rinse thoroughly.
• After stripping and cleaning, allow wood to dry 2-3 good drying days or until it has reached a moisture content of 18% or less before applying finish.
• TEAK-OLJE may only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered wood surfaces previously finished with TEAK-OLJE. ALL other finishes must be completely and thoroughly removed.
• If necessary sand surface after cleaning and/or stripping (100 grit paper).

New wood

Interior:Sand wood with 100 grit paper to open the pores, dust off and degrease the surface with Methylated spirits (Denatured Alcohol).Exterior:Prepare as for interior wood OR treat surface with AQUANETT®* and neutralise with NET-TROL®*.New wood surfaces have a hard shiny surface called mill glaze that prevents maximum penetration and bonding of any finish; sanding or treating the wood with AQUANETT®* removes this, ensuring maximum performance of the finish.Iroko, Padouk, Keruing: see “restrictions”.

Weathered wood surfaces (untreated)

Clean weathered wood with NET-TROL®*, to remove the loose wood fibres, dirt and other surfacecontaminants. If wood is severely contaminated, clean with AQUANETT®* and neutralise with NET-TROL®*.

Previously oiled surfaces

All other oils or sealers must be completely and thoroughly removed with AQUANETT®* and stripped surfacesneutralised with NET-TROL®*, before applying TEAK-OLJE.

Previously coated surfaces (Paint, Stain, Varnish, Waterproofers…)

All previous coatings must be completely and thoroughly removed with DILUNETT®* and the stripped surface neutralised with NET-TROL®* before applying TEAK-OLJE.Other finishes: Contact our technical department for additional information and advice.Note: Hardwoods inc’ exotic hardwoods and woods rich in tannins i.e. Teak, Iroko, Merbau, Oak… may darken with AQUANETT®* and DILUNETT®*, neutralising with NET-TROL®* immediately after rinsing will lighten and restore the woods colour.

Application

• Apply 2 even applications of TEAK-OLJE wet on wet.
• Apply 1st application of TEAK-OLJE and allow to penetrate, normally 15-20 minutes.
• Apply 2nd application and allow to penetrate.
• If required repeat this procedure until the wood is saturated i.e. will accept no more material.
• Do not allow TEAK-OLJE to become touch dry or dry between applications.
• Brush out or wipe up any excess TEAK-OLJE with a lint free cloth 15-20 minutes after last application to avoid shiny spots.
• Allow to dry.

Note: TEAK-OLJE is not a surface coating, its place is in the wood and not on the surface. TEAK-OLJE protects by penetrating the wood, providing a rich matt finish.

Restrictions

The tannins and natural oils in woods such as Keruing, Iroko and Padouk impede the penetration and drying of finishes. These species of wood should be thoroughly prepared or allowed to weather for 12 months before applying TEAK-OLJE. Contact us for preparation advice.
